For more than a decade, Matt Spittal dedicated his legal career to seeking justice as a prosecutor, handling some of the most serious criminal cases in New Jersey. As a former Deputy Section Chief of the Homicide Unit in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, he investigated, prepared, and prosecuted complex homicide, vehicular homicide, and violent crime cases, working alongside detectives, law enforcement agencies, forensic experts, crash reconstruction experts, and victims’ families from the earliest stages of an investigation through trial.
Over the course of his career, Matt prosecuted murders, attempted murders, vehicular homicides, aggravated assaults, weapons offenses, and other major felonies. He developed extensive experience litigating pretrial motions, conducting evidentiary hearings, presenting cases to grand juries, negotiating resolutions, and trying cases before juries. His experience gives him a thorough understanding of how prosecutors investigate cases, evaluate evidence, prepare witnesses, reconstruct fatal crashes, and make charging and plea decisions.
Today, Matt applies that knowledge to defending individuals charged with criminal offenses throughout New Jersey. He understands that an arrest or criminal investigation can be one of the most stressful experiences a person will ever face. His approach is straightforward, strategic, and client-focused. Every case receives careful preparation, honest communication, and an aggressive defense designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
Matt believes effective criminal defense begins with understanding every aspect of the prosecution’s case. Drawing on years of courtroom experience, he identifies weaknesses in investigations, challenges the admissibility and reliability of evidence, and develops defense strategies tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
A South Jersey native, Matt earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware before receiving his Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School. Before attending law school, Matt played football at the University of Delaware, an experience that helped shape the work ethic, discipline, and resilience he brings to every client he represents.
Matt represents clients facing criminal charges throughout New Jersey, with a particular focus on homicide, vehicular homicide, death by auto, attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons offenses, drug offenses, and other complex felony matters.
