Camden Traffic Violation Lawyer: Avoid Speeding Tickets

When facing a moving violation in New Jersey, it is crucial that motorists comply with law enforcement instructions. Eluding police officers in order to avoid speeding tickets and other moving violations could lead to serious repercussions. A 43 year-old Pennsylvania man discovered this recently after being pulled over for speeding on a Pennsylvania roadway.

A Philadelphia police sergeant observed the man speeding and subsequently followed him as he drove his vehicle behind a nearby building. After initially stating that he pulled over to check his tires, the man finally admitted he was trying to avoid a speeding ticket. In addition to summonses for speeding and failure to yield for emergency vehicles, the man was arrested and charged with interference with a police officer and obstruction of the administration of law.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics conducted a Police-Public Contact Survey and found that traffic stops are the primary basis for police and citizen contact, with speeding being the most common reason drivers are pulled over. At the time of the study, 17.9 million people over the age of 16 reported that their last contact with a police officer was at a traffic stop. This means that a large percentage of drivers will experience being pulled over by the police at some point in their lifetime. Rather than try to flee from the offense, complying with police instructions and securing legal counsel from an experienced criminal lawyer after the incident is advised.

Criminal Law Professor Kip Cornwell advises drivers to always pull over at an officer’s direction, present identification, and get out of the vehicle upon request, or face additional – possibly severe—charges. The Pennsylvania man could possibly have avoided some of the more serious charges he is now facing by cooperating with law enforcement.
